La Feria Tour and Cooking Class
Tour "La Feria", a traditional, big, open air market, to buy and then later cook up local dishes in the hotel kitchen with foods from this area.
First you'll drive over to a traditional big open air market with Gary, to tour it and buy the necessary ingredients. Then it’s back to the hotel kitchen to cook up, with Michelle: patacones (twice fried plantain), chontacurros (worms from the heart of the Chonta palm), yuca, garabata yuyo, and make Guayusa tea, and hot salsa, Ecuadorian style with tomate de arbol (tomato tree fruit). We’ll snack on chochos while we cook. You can look over the hotel’s Exotic Fruit and Vegies Guide before we go in case there might be something else you want to pick up and learn how to prepare. We also have Grande Pilsners for sale to drink while we cook! Please note, sometimes there are no chontacurros or garabata yuyo available for purchase. If that happens, we’ll just have to decide on something else. Who’s up for a cooking class!
