Day Jungle

Tour

Visit and feed grapes to the playful monkeys that hang out on a river beach, take a motor canoe trip from there to a chocolate making demo out in the jungle, an amazing butterfly farm, a riverside picnic lunch, and AmaZOOnico Animal Rehab Center.

This is our Day Jungle Tour, aka our all day, do everything we do on the Napo River extravaganza, heading out at 8:00 am and finishing around 6:30 pm. It starts out with a pretty drive to a nearby small town, where we’ll visit with and feed grapes to the playful monkeys that hang out there and on their river beach.

From there we’ll take a motor canoe trip down the Napo River to all our other activities. First up is a chocolate and chicha making demo right out in the jungle. This is a favorite among our guests (and not just the kids!). You’ll see how chocolate is made, all the way from breaking open the cacao pod to tasting the final product, which is made into what is most likely the most delicious fondue you've ever tasted. We'll bring along strawberries and bananas for a special treat!

Next up, an amazing butterfly farm. There are so many butterflies there that they literally land on you. Can you picture yourself there? You will want your camera for this! Farther down the Napo River we’ll stop for a riverside picnic lunch where we often find squirrel monkeys. A little farther down the river is a small island where we often spot woolly monkeys. Finally you’ll tour an animal rehab center where one of their guides will take you through the facility, viewing all sorts of jungle animals including various types of jungle cats, monkeys, birds, etc.. Their guides are actually volunteers from all over the world that speak a variety of languages. After the rehab center we’ll take our motor canoe back up river to our take out, and head on back to Tena.

What's Included: Private ground transportation to and from the river, the cost of the motor canoe and chocolate making demo, entrance fees to the animal rehab center and the butterfly farm, grapes for the monkeys, strawberries and bananas for the chocolate demo and a delicious picnic lunch along the river. Also, a guide that will be with you the whole time. It will be a local Ecuadorian guide, that speaks English at an advanced level and has a talent for making the tours they give both a lesson on the jungle and fun at the same time.

What to Bring: First on the list is your camera! After that, lightweight long pants, a water bottle, mosquito repellent, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, and a rain jacket or poncho. (Even if it doesn't look like rain, you never know, the weather changes often. Also, though the motor canoe has a roof, it can get chilly on an overcast day. A rain jacket is perfect for this.) The only cash you would possibly need would be for handicrafts sold in the animal rehab center gift shop. Check out our What to Bring! page for a more comprehensive list of suggestion for things you might want to bring when coming to this area and to Ecuador in general.

Start time: 8:00

Duration: 10 hours, you'll finish around dusk, the perfect time for some bird watching from the motor canoe as we pull into our take out. Lately, we've been spotting snowy egrets at this time.

Maximum travelers: 10

Kid Friendly: Yes

Activity Level: Light

Cost: The more people that go, the lower the per person price!

When we have 9 or 10 participants sign up by the time of the tour, the cost is an amazing $75 per person,

8 go for $80, 7 for $85, 6 for $90, 5 for $95, and 4 for $105 per person... Which is still a very reasonable price for this great tour!  (3 people could go for $125pp or 2 for $145pp.)
